How To Learn Vertax

Vertax is the contraction of vertical axis. It’s the art of playing diabolo on the horizontal plane. This takes a bit of practice, but looks very impressive and unlocks a plethora of new tricks to have fun with.

When you start learning vertax, make sure you have plenty of room around you. It is best to try for the first time outside or in an empty gym.

In my opinion a slightly shorter string helps, then when you have mastered the basics, you should come back to your regular string length. Although, having a diabolo with a bearing axle will speed up your vertax learning, you can learn vertax with a fixed axle.

Prerequisites

To learn vertax, you only need to know how to do the chinese acceleration well.

Step By Step Explanation

This explanation is for righties, so if you are a lefty don’t forget to change left for right and right for left

  1. Tilt diabolo backwards. You want to start bringing the axle from horizontal to vertical. For that, bring your right hand towards you while pushing your left hand forward
  2. Wrap the string around the diabolo in an internal wrap
  3. Do the chinese acceleration while lifting your left hand up. The friction of the string on the cup is what makes the diabolo’s axle go vertical.
  4. Turn anti clockwise to follow the diabolo’s movement. While doing vertax, you need to keep active (either accelerate or do a trick) at all times, otherwise the diabolo will fall.

What To Learn Next?

Learning vertax, unlocks a lot of tricks. You can do pretty much every normal diabolo trick in vertax version. So like in normal 1 diabolo, the next steps are the trapeze (also called stopover) and then suns.

If you have any questions regarding this trick, don’t hesitate to leave a comment and I’ll be happy to answer!
