This trick is part of the Diabolo Trick Roadmap (also available on Amazon) which is a skill tree (containing 337 tricks from 1 to 3 diabolos) designed to give you a personalized list of tricks you’re ready to learn, taking into account the tricks you already know.
The catch is a nice way to stop your diabolo. It is very easy to learn as long as you remember to have your diabolo not spin too fast.
This tutorial is written for righties, so if you are left handed, don’t forget to mirror the instructions.

1. Hold your sticks pointing down and aligned with the string.
2. Lift the sticks up and let go of both of them.
3. Quickly cross your arms before catching the sticks. It doesn’t matter which arm goes over the other. Your left stick ends up in your right hand and your right stick is in your left hand, so you are in the darkside string position.
4. Throw the diabolo with your arms crossed.
5. Uncross your arms before catching the diabolo. You should be fully ready to catch the diabolo normally by the time the diabolo starts to come back down (if not you should throw the diabolo higher in step 4).
