When you are not a diabolo juggler yourself, treating the diabolo fan in your life to a gift that will help them enjoy their preferred pastime even more can be challenging.
From gear and merch to DVDs and other accessories, the 8 recommendations below include something for pretty much every diabolo player regardless of skill level.
These ideas are nice to have when you are a diabolo player, for the 5 must-haves, check out this article.
Wireless Headphones
If your diabolo player loves listening to music during his training session, a good pair of wireless headphones makes a great gift.
There is nothing worse than having your headphones yanked out of your ears because your sticks, string or diabolo got caught in the wire. It usually end up with your headphones damaged and sometimes your music system flying with them.
With wireless headphones, you can tuck your music system away from harm and keep your headphones longer.
You will want a pair of earbud that is sweat/water-proof and has a decent charge for long training session. These are the ones I’m using.
Water Bottle
Juggling is like any other physical activity and you need to stay hydrated to avoid cramps etc. Having a nice and sturdy refillable bottle is a must. You can then throw it in a bag, drop your diabolos on it without it breaking and spilling your beverage on the string, ruining it.
You can find my favorite water bottle here on Amazon.
Diabolo
This one is a bit tricky if you don’t know what the juggler is using or likes.
If the diabolos he or she uses don’t make any noise while spinning, it means it is a fixed axle diabolo, so maybe a bearing diabolo is a cool idea to expand their tricks and style. I recommend the brands Sundia or Hyperspin.
If you know exactly what brand and make of diabolo they have, getting another one if they don’t already have 3 or 4 will allow them to try to juggle with multiple diabolos.
DVDs And Books
For beginners, my 2 recommendations are “the diabolo from a to z” and Donald Grant’s series of books (links to Amazon). These books teach the basic tricks and will help build a good foundation.
For advanced players, there are 2 great DVDs with tutorials but also with awesome inspiring videos of great players : Diabology and The Planet Diabolo (here on Amazon). I bought Diabology 3 times because I lended the DVD to another diabolo juggler and ended up gifting it to them twice.
Juggling Journal
Having a way to record your progress and ideas is a good way to help you improve and stay motivated. A simple lined journal with a nice pen can be a great gift for a juggler.
You can find a nice one here.
Filming Gear
This is another way to document your progress and ideas and my favorite one because it’s easier than trying to describe a new idea with words.
Depending on your budget, any of the following will help with a video log : a SD card, an external hard drive, a tripod or a camera. The links go to the ones I use, that you can find on Amazon.
Convention pass
A juggling convention is a meeting of jugglers usually during a weekend with workshops, shows, games and a good atmosphere where you learn a ton and have great fun.
You usually have to pay for a pass for the duration of the event that allows you to access everything.
Going to a juggling convention is a great experience and is in my opinion the best vacation for diabolo enthusiasts! You can find a list of them here.
T-shirts
If you’re not sure if any of the previous suggestions will be a good gift for your juggler, a diabolo themed t-shirt or hoodie is sure way to make a diabolo player happy!
You always need a comfortable t-shirt to train in, preferably 100% coton.
