This trick is part of the Diabolo Trick Roadmap (available on Amazon) which is a skill tree (containing 337 tricks from 1 to 3 diabolos) designed to give you a personalized list of tricks you’re ready to learn, taking into account the tricks you already know.
The cat’s cradle is harder to do with a short string as you need space to throw the diabolo between the strings.
As always the tutorial is described for righties so if you are left handed switch right and left in the step by step explanation.
Prerequisites
#12 Trapeze or #13 Darkside catch or #36 Simple stick swap
Step By Step Explanation
1. Do a left trapeze. This trick can be done from a left or a right trapeze. I find doing a left trapeze for a righty makes the trick easier because you need precision with your stick for step 2.
2. Put your right stick in the loop formed around your left stick.
3. Pull the sticks apart gently and not too much. You want to have enough space between the exterior cup of the diabolo and the cross formed by the string.
4. Throw the diabolo, keeping the cradle in place by pointing your sticks up a bit.
5. Catch the diabolo in the crossed string. This is the cat’s cradle.
6. To exit this trick, you can point the sticks down to release the knot and you will end up in the open string position or you can throw your diabolo again and pull the sticks apart to undo the knot and catch the diabolo normally.
