An orbit, as the name suggests, is a trick where the diabolo has a regular, repeating path around something (arm, leg, …). In the case of the simple orbit, the diabolo doesn’t go around anything, but draws a circle in the air.
This trick, like any orbits done clockwise for righties and anti-clockwise for lefties, gives spin to your diabolo.
Prerequisites
The only thing you need to know is how to throw and catch your diabolo.
Step By Step Explanation
1. Start with the open string position and some speed.
2. Push the diabolo with your right hand towards your left stick. By travelling on the string, from your dominant hand to your non-dominant hand the diabolo gains speed.
3. When the diabolo has almost reached the left stick, throw it towards your right hand using your left wrist to point your stick up. Pointing your left sticks to your right, if you are right handed (pointing your right stick to your left, if left handed) will help you throw the diabolo to the right.
4. Catch the diabolo as close to the stick as possible. That way the diabolo has more time to roll to the non dominant hand which slows down the trick and gives more speed to the diabolo.
5. Repeat steps 2 to 4 for as long as you want.
What’s Next?
Once you mastered the orbit, you can learn the circle acceleration, the arm orbit, the leg orbit, the throw 180 and even the 2 diabolo shuffle (if you already mastered the two types of corrections : tipping and turning).
