#130 – 1D Tuto – Alarm Clock

This trick is part of the Diabolo Trick Roadmap (available on Amazon) which is a skill tree (containing 337 tricks from 1 to 3 diabolos) designed to give you a personalized list of tricks you’re ready to learn, taking into account the tricks you already know.

The alarm clock is a nice variation of the loop knot starting with a variation of the trapeze. This trick can be done on the left and on the right, but you will be using the alarm clock on the right more often if you are right-handed. It will also help you with integrals later, as you will learn how to grab the string after releasing a stick which is a must-know for integrals.

The tutorial is described for the alarm clock done on the right, so if you want to learn it on the left switch right and left in the step by step explanation.

Prerequisites

Step By Step Explanation

1. Do a right trapeze around your right wrist. It is the same movement as in the normal trapeze but instead of having the string going around the stick, the string wraps around your wrist.

2. Release the right stick.

3. While the stick is in the air, grab the string between the diabolo and the right stick.

4. Let the stick go all the way around and back under the diabolo before catching it (keep holding the string when you catch the stick), as you would do in the loop knot. You are now in the free string position, meaning if you let go of the knot, the diabolo will drop.

5. To get back to the open string position, you can throw the diabolo in the air while releasing the knot and catch it or you can wrap the string around the diabolo with your left hand and release the knot.
