Snapping the violin string is a variation of the Fritz release (#46) done around the arm. Having mastered the Fritz release will help you learn this trick faster, but it is not necessary.
As always the tutorial is described for righties so if you are left handed switch right and left in the step by step explanation.
Prerequisites
Step By Step Explanation
1. Start in the arm orbit position, ie put your dominant arm above the string by pointing the right stick towards you. The stick turns 180° on the outside. Your arm should draw an L with your hand being the top of the L and your elbow being at the angle.
2. Lower your left hand to let your diabolo roll towards it.
3. Throw the diabolo up and catch it on the right string by rotating the right stick and arm at the right elbow to the left, so the string coming off the right handstick is below the falling diabolo. The end of the right stick moves from 12 o’clock to 9 o’clock for the catch and the string for the catch is horizontal. Your diabolo is now in the left darkside string position.
4. Swing the right stick clockwise as if you were doing a sun. The swing needs to be forceful enough to create a nice clockwise circle to get the diabolo to swing all the way under the left stick and upward.
5. As the diabolo does a sun to your left, catch it the same way you would in a left trapeze.
6. Allow the diabolo to continue under the left stick after the trapeze. This is the same as the ending as #46 Fritz release. To do this, swing the diabolo as if you are about to do a second trapeze on the left, but instead of stopping on the string, allow the diabolo to be tossed straight up, left of both sticks. Remember to point the sticks at the rising diabolo for the string to release.
7. Catch the diabolo on the open string.
