1D Tuto – Wrap And Unwrap

This isn’t a “real” tricks, but a very important technique to understand and master. This will help you understand string positions and help you with any tricks that involves a wrap.

If you are using a fixed axle diabolo, make sure your string is not too old and grippy or your diabolo might climb up the string without your consent!

As always the tutorial is described for righties so if you are left handed switch right and left in the step by step explanation.

Step By Step Explanation

The wrap in itself is very easy to do :

• use your right hand to draw a circle around the diabolo counterclockwise. The closer the diabolo is to your right stick (by lifting your left hand up), the easier it will be to wrap as the circle around the diabolo will be smaller. This is called an internal wrap (the string is wrapped around the cup closest to you with your dominant hand)
• To unwrap, do the same motion in reverse (draw the circle clockwise with the right hand)

If you wrap around the cup further away from you or you use your left hand to wrap around the back cup, the wrap is external.

To undo an internal wrap, you can use your right hand clockwise (on the inside) or your left hand counterclockwise (on the outside).

To undo an external wrap, you can use your left hand counterclockwise (on the inside) or your right hand clockwise (on the outside).

If you make a mistake and unwrap the wrong way, you will be in the sun position, in this case you can do a sun to get back to the open string position :

• Clockwise sun for an internal wrap unwrapping mistake
• Counter clockwise sun for an external wrap unwrapping mistake
