1D Tuto – Waterfall

The waterfall is a beginner trick that you will outgrow pretty quickly, but it’s a good basic trick that will help you understand some key concepts like sticks position and string play.

As always the tutorial is described for righties so if you are left handed switch right and left in the step by step explanation.

You don’t need to accelerate your diabolo much to perform this trick as the string pulling will add spin to the diabolo and the trick is not a long one.

Prerequisites

How to start your diabolo. That’s it!

Step By Step Explanation

1. Turn your body to the left and point your right stick towards you.

2. Loop the string over your left stick. Remenber to keep the left stick pointing up a bit so the string doesn’t slip off the stick. If this happens you will be in an external wrap string position.

3. Pull the right stick under the diabolo. You are now in a trapeze position. Now you can point your right stick back to normal or keep it pointing towards you. It’s a matter of preferences and does not affect the trick.

4. A constant pull will make the diabolo go around the left stick, undoing the string loop and you will be back to the starting position with an open string.

What’s Next?

You can learn the double waterfall where you repeat steps 2 and 3 before step 4 (1,2,3,2,3,4,4) where you will need a bit more speed.

The waterfall and the trapeze are very similar tricks. So if you’ve mastered the waterfall, you’ll be able to learn the trapeze really fast (you’ll also need to know the sun). The trapeze is a key trick to learn, it will allow you to unlock a lot of new tricks!
