This technique is not necessary at first, but a good one to work on early on. It allows you to keep your diabolo facing the audience when you’re performing. It will also be a necessary skill to have when you learn the 2 diabolo shuffle to keep your diabolos aligned.
I highly recommend to learn to correct by touching the outside of the cup first as it’s the technique you will be using with multiple diabolos.
As always the tutorial is described for righties so if you are left handed switch right and left in the step by step explanation.
Prerequisites
Step By Step Explanation
Before trying to correct the orientation of the diabolo, you need a lot of speed as touching the cups will slow the diabolo down significantly.
To touch the cup, the 2 main options are with a finger or with the stick.
To use your finger, you’ll need to put the 2 sticks in one hand and use the other hand to touch the cup.
To use the stick, you’ll need to grab some string with your left hand (that is still holding the left sick) so that the string is shorter and your can reach the diabolo or you can be in the trapeze position either after a trapeze or during the waterfall.
To turn the diabolo to the left, you can touch (with a finger or the stick) :
- Inside the front cup at the top
- Outside the front cup at the bottom
- Inside the back cup at the bottom
- Outside the back cup at the top
To turn the diabolo to the right, you can touch the diabolo (with a finger or the stick) :
- Inside the front cup at the bottom
- Outside the front cup at the top
- Inside the back cup at the top
- Outside the back cup at the bottom
What’s Next?
After mastering the turning correction, you’re ready to learn the grind and the 2 diabolo shuffle (if you also have mastered the orbit and the tipping correction)
