This trick is part of the Diabolo Trick Roadmap (available on Amazon) which is a skill tree (containing 337 tricks from 1 to 3 diabolos) designed to give you a personalized list of tricks you’re ready to learn, taking into account the tricks you already know.
Al’s release, also known as inverse trapeze, is a variation of the half-spaghetti, where instead of having the string go around the diabolo, the diabolo goes to the string like in an upside down trapeze.
This trick can be done on the right or on the left.
This tutorial describes the Al’s release on the left, so if you want to learn it on the right, switch right and left in the step by step explanation.
Prerequisites
Step By Step Explanation
1. Cross your arms, by moving your right stick in front of your left.
2. Uncross your arms by moving your right stick above of your left stick. You should be in a position where the string is above the diabolo.
3. From this position, swing your diabolo as you would do for a trapeze, but keep your diabolo goes anti-clockwise instead of clockwise. The diabolo goes from inside your arms up, catching the string above it, and going around the left stick anti-clockwise (from your point of view). When the diabolo comes down, make sure your left stick is slightly pointing up, so the string doesn’t slide off the stick.
4. Bring both sticks close together and parallel to each other and throw the diabolo to the side. This will release the knot around the stick and diabolo.
5. Pull your sticks apart and catch the diabolo as you would in the throw and catch trick.
